The discovery that Kerri Chandler is a member of METI International was unexpected, to say the least. Indeed, shortly after publishing my first post on the subject, one somewhat unkind person left me a voice message saying they’d just read it and had been in hysterics of laughter since. It’s not that funny…

The real mystery is how I didn’t spot this sooner. In an interview from October 2017, he points out he’s released EPs with names like Atomsphere, Hemisphere, Ionosphere and so on. He also mentions there “was a project I was speaking about doing with Douglas Vakoch from METI – sending music into space”. The link here includes a 102-page message in binary code. If you have any idea what it is, you’re cleverer than me.

METI International has been contacted to ask whether this project happened, and so has Mr Chandler himself. If it’s a record like “No Surprise” was broadcast into space, I just hope the aliens are a fan of really hard kick drums – otherwise, we could be in some trouble here…

* Well, everyone’s been asking here at the Amateur’s House offices. Probably not the rest of you so much…
