Cast your mind back to the summer of 2001. Tunes being played heavily in clubs that year included “Happy People” by Static Revenger, “Babarabatiri” by Todd Terry under his Gypsymen alias, Danny Tenaglia’s remix of “I Feel Loved” by Depeche Mode – but there was arguably an even more popular record.

It was “Another Chance” by Roger Sanchez. It was released via Sony Music in most of the world and licenced by Defected in the UK. I first heard it in May 2001 and then heard it endlessly for months afterwards.

This wasn’t the record that made Roger Sanchez famous – he’d been making music since 1990 and was something of a remixer to the stars in the mid-90s. But this one elevated his career further. And it’s 20 years old this year!

So, how are Sony Music going to celebrate? Are they going to commission new remixes in the flavours of 2021 – such as a dull tech-house one, or maybe a disco reimagination that really should have stayed in someone’s head? Thankfully not – they’ve just remastered the video for this harsh HD age and released a few picture discs.

Thank goodness for small mercies. Does the world really need yet another old tune remixed by Dr Packer, Michael Gray, David Penn or whichever name is in demand for the next five minutes?
