So the 30th birthday party for Club Shelter is upon us. Taking place tomorrow night at the Brooklyn Monarch in New York, the event is meant to feature DJ Spinna, Louie Vega, Tony Humphries and a “suprise guest”, as they insist on spelling it on all their flyers.

However, the more eagle eyed of you might notice something notably odd about the list. Take a look…

Full marks to anyone who’s noticed that Timmy Regisford, the founder of Club Shelter who has been there throughout its 30 year history, is not named. And that’s not the only unusual thing about this list.

According to the website where they sold their tickets, this event is due to last 16 hours. It starts at 5pm on Friday and ends at 9am on Saturday. Yet in Room 1, the last person listed is Louie Vega at 11pm, and Room 2 has Mark Francis listed twice – he opens at 5pm and then returns at 4am.

Now, I have no doubt that both Louie Vega and Mark Francis are talented DJs. But I don’t buy for one minute that Francis is playing a 5-hour set and Vega is playing for 10 hours. Given how short everyone else’s sets are in comparison, this doesn’t sound right to me.

So where is Timmy Regisford? Not listed on this bill, anyway. Sources tell me that, to the best of their knowledge, he’s in perfectly good health – and if someone like Regisford would be absent on the night, the socials would have had to say something. Could it be that Regisford is appearing later in the evening in Room 1 with his “suprise guest”?

And is that person Derrick May? This blog revealed it was, then it wasn’t, then it was – and now, there have been denials coming from Club Shelter, but none officially. An anonymous source suggests a back to back set could be on the cards. Interesting theory…
