Ever since nightclubs reopened in numerous countries around the world, most people have been happy to see their return. But one thing it’s safe to say which wasn’t missed when they were closed was the threat of having your drink spiked by someone with a potentially very dangerous agenda.

Not to say this only happens in nightclubs, of course – but there seems to have been a notable increase in drink spiking and needle spiking in recent months compared to what went before. No one’s quite sure how to resolve the problem – clubs are left largely to themselves to work this one out.

In the case of drinks being spiked, the Slug and Lettuce on Cardiff’s Mary Street have come up with quite a novel solution

The comments on the thread are mostly supportive, although there are a few questions being raised about how environmentally friendly these foil covers are. And whilst I understand these questions are legitimate and very topical after the Cop26 talking shop this week, they seem somewhat out of place in this conversation.

I, for one, applaud the Slug & Lettuce for coming up with the idea. Infact, I’m surprised no one else thought of it before. As well as being useful for safety, it’s also a prime advertising space for drinks offers, food – or you could even put safety advice on them.

Now if you’ll excuse me, this has put me in the mood for a cocktail. They do look delicious, to be fair…
