This tweet by Simon Dunmore, the big boss man at Defected Records is doing the rounds. I couldn’t agree more with him, as it happens.

It truly defies belief that no one has been sued over this. Some of the tunes you see in the jacking house section on Traxsource or the house charts on Beatport are nothing more than someone sticking a couple of drum elements on top of an old disco record. It’s theft, pure and simple.

That said, I can’t help but notice a number of people responding to his original tweet aren’t entirely blameless for this phenomenon. Did they obtain clearance for all the samples they used? I’d be very curious to know…
