And there was me thinking that 5 Magazine were one of the better ones. Admittedly, this isn’t difficult in a dance music press which exists mostly to kiss the backsides of those they report on. But they do nonetheless make more of an effort to hold the scene to account than their rivals.

Which is why I was particularly disappointed to see Solomun gracing the front cover of their latest issue. Back on June 11th, 5 Magazine published an article by Terry Matthew online castigating DJs who had been doing plague raves in Zanzibar. “Sociopaths in headphones”, they excoriatingly called it.

And rightly so. But they’ve now revealed that their new issue has Solomun on the front page – who was doing at least one plague rave in Tulum back in January, when the Mexican region was dealing with a big Covid-19 wave. He wasn’t keen on being filmed…
