On the week that a criminal blew his own cover by farting whilst hiding in a bush, I go through the tunes that’ll give you a second wind. Just hopefully not flatulent ones…
In-Soul Feat. Donna Cousins – Out Of Your Mind (PointBlank)
This is one that I somehow forgot to include last week. I discovered this around ten minutes after the column had been published. Unfortunate. Anyway, this one has a certain irreverence to it that I like. Aim for the DJ Passion mix if you want something to sing along to, and Ray Hurley’s dub for something a bit moody and fun. 8/10.
Matt Early & Ray Hurley Feat. Abi Flynn – Get To Me Once (Sub London)
Ever wondered how you define garage house? Mike Millrain gives it a damn good go here. Both mixes work very well. I’d stick to the first mix personally. 9/10.
BKT Feat. Nevada Cato – Insane (Bassball)
Two new remixes appear of this release. Both remixes are a little too short for my personal liking here, but there’s no denying that the right people were chosen to do the right remixes. 8/10.
Richard Payton – Mad Appeal (95 North)
The musical tastes of Richard Payton have obviously got much more advanced over the years, like some kind of fine wine. The alternative versions are nice extras to have, but stick to the club mix. It reminds me a lot of the Latin house sound that took over in the early 2000s. 10/10.
James Deron Feat. Morris Revy – I Believe (ROHM)
Voice of the moment Morris Revy appears once more, one of many to be included in recent weeks in this column. This has a very 90s vibe to it. A sparse arrangement allows an exemplary vocal to shine through. 9/10.
